What...? Make slight adjustments to our way of living that might seem drastic at first but in the long haul lead to the overall benefit and longevity of the human race? PFFFTTT!!! f*** that! I need more gasoline so I can drive my solid gold Hummer. It's got 38 gallons to the mile for maximum efficiency.

While I believe that the human species with eventually go extinct (as opposed to evolve into another species), I think Stephen Hawking's prediction of 100 years is ridiculous.

The idea that we humans would be on and populating another planet, or even have s sufficient number of people on board a spaceship with all the requisite equipment and supplies in route to another planet that was in perfect condition to be populated by humans, is completely ridiculous.

As to survival on planet earth: Even considering all the various potential dooms-day scenarios, from a species survival perspective (base on survival vs. extinction perspective) the human species only needs 25 to 50 viable reproducing couples to escape a short term extinction scenario.

Now, line up all or even many dooms-day extinction events pretty much back to back, or all at once, or push the time line out a few thousand years, and Stephen Hawking might be on to something.

He was wrong about black holes and I believe him to be way wrong about this 100 years business.

I also think his AI scare is silly.

By 100 years, due to global warming, the entire equatorial region will be inhabitable and the mild climate regions will turn into arid Sahara conditions.

This will kill off and/or displace billions. Which, in turn will result in vastly increased potential for famine, sickness, and disease for those who remain.

And that's not even touching the political repercussions of such a mess, but you can probably get the picture from there that it will be equally as ugly.

That is one possible scenario. There are some that are less bleak, others much bleaker.

Yes, life as we know it might be much different 100 years from now.

Still, the extinction of the human species is not likely to happen in the next 100 years due to global warming, and certainly not due to AI.

The extinction of the human species isn't likely without a pretty major extinction event like a comet or astroid hitting the earth or a major volcano like the one under Yellowstone Park erupting. Either of those things could happen within 100 years...or not for many thousands.

i think big threat from the global warming in next 25 or 50 years. or, even less the shrinking of antarctica's wasteland, the greenland's ice shelves and the rapid of melting icesheets of large ice shelves as well, the melting of icebergs.

which will produces america's coastlines to go under waters and a sight possible the shorelines of california to sink california.

with the stream of drought and flooding the strike harder in every summers for the rest of our life. the heat will get more stronger and adapt itself around the midwest and most of the usa like being chocking to death.

then we are prone to have superviruses and regular viruses more frequently than ever.

why are would we worry or wondering to the future to colonizes another planet? when we have problems now, you wonder?

Obviously, you didn't see that one move released in 1998 about the comet heading for earth. Or that other move that was release in 1998. About the comet heading for earth.

Between Space-X and The Rock (aka Duane Johnson), we can avoid those too.

And AI, Shmay-Aye ... Look how long John Connor's Resistance could last against Skynet

in 1998, other much better of the two version of comet heading for the earth.

Armageddon with bruce willis, more likeably than deep impact, because of the special effect and a love story. both movies were fair to watch.
