You seem to be writing in the present tense, so I'll have to agree with you: Trump is a Wimp.

Wrong...so many who voted for him think otherwise. This is why he's President...a true leader for our country... not that queen wannabe Hilary.
If she gets a run in her stocking or a hang nail WW3 begins.

This might be the only real answer, if it isn't already in the works. But it also may be very hard, if not impossible, to pull off. We tried it many times with Castro during the Cold War.

In an ideal world these clowns would have been reigned in years ago, and the Chinese would have been smacked down hard for giving NK any access to any modern weapons technology - but that time has passed, sadly. The west (not the US alone) should now say to China, 'you pull his head in or we will. The trade embargo we inflict on you will hurt you more than us, so make a choice.' Leave it to the Chinese to deal with a retard of their own creation. That almost certainly won't happen though.

Trump was right in saying that China manipulate the global economy, and he was right to say it needs to end. Now he needs to put his mouth where our money is... so to speak.

How would you suggest the US resolve this issue?

Dump Trump in favor of someone more level headed & less bombastic.

"it would probably make more sense for the initial overture to come from European nations (France, German, England, etc). "

Note:

When it comes to international politics, it is the sovereign nation of the UK that is recognized and not any of the four constituent countries. So no overture could come from England. An 'overture' could however come from the UK.

Trump is in fact the leader of our country.

Obama has come and gone.

Hillary is not the leader of our country and never will be. (I might be going out on a limb with that one, but I honestly can't imagine her running for office again.) Regardless of her stockings, if there is a WW3, it won't be because of her...she is gone.

As to Trump, from what I can tell: He is a nitwit with the emotional maturity of an emotionally deficient adolescent male.

None the less, I continue to hope that he will find away to do good things for the USA....though sadly he is selling out our National Parks and making other poor decisions....but all of that should be on another topic thread.

Yes... because only starting a war will prevent one.

I think it is plain that North Korea will not give up it's missile or nuclear programs. The leaders are unresponsive to the suffering of the citizens. Sanctions will not work. We can't stop North Korea from becoming a nuclear power, it is already a nuclear power. Invasion is not an option unless a much larger war is anticipated. A few dozen tomahawk missiles will not solve the problem either. If North Korea is attacked it is likely China will defend them. So there it is layed out. We just have to respect North Korea as a Nuclear Power, and move ahead accordingly. All this saber rattling and bravado bragging and drum beating will not change the reality of the situation. And don't think for a moment that we can go it alone.

Corey.

I think part of the problem is even if we try to treat Lil' Kim as an adult, he will still threaten and taunt the West under his paranoid delusions of grandeur. He's worse that his father, Sick Kim.

As far as Military Force: I don't think a decapitation would work, because there are probably plenty behind him that would be the same - or worse.
That would leave only one other option: Regime Change

... do you think the world would cry foul if China just annexed the North and took care of "the problem"?

It would be a double edged sword: SK would be rid of an unpredictable nut-bag right on their border, but then they would have a real super power on their doorstep.
