I don't think that seeking affirmation from others is unhealthy or wrong, necessarily. In fact, as I see it, it is perfectly normal and reasonable. People generally want to believe that they have some value in the eyes of someone else. It is only when that healthy need becomes obsessive because the person has no intrinsic sense of their own worth that it becomes an issue.

Like it or not, humans are communal. In order to be healthy, we need some kind of external affirmation in some sense (however tenuous it may be for many people). Still, there is a difference between the basic requirement of belonging on one hand, and a constant desperate need to have people prop you up on the other.

Check out fake Heaven.

If you're too busy crying over something intentionally established to make you cry you won't have the clear head to more strategically attempt to hack through and get to the catalyst of the illusion.

This video wasn't available in my country. The description says it is the end of the movie Mullholland Drive.

Thanks... I've never heard of the movie though, so I still have no idea what EB was trying to say to me...

Me either. He explained it to me before so maybe he'll do it again. Or you can check out the imdb for it.

*sigh* it's American content so not sure why NZ would firewall it because they can't take legal copyright action on countries outside of their jurisdiction.

In short, backing up the point I was making about becoming emotionally dependent on the presence of another person in your life: It just sets stage for others to get at you.

You know - You marry your high-school sweetheart and have a child but because you won't subscribe to Islam, refuse to ostracize homosexuals, etc etc (demonstrate better moral understanding than the herd) one day you come home on your birthday to find your wife and child gone and a tape on your porch. Tape is a porn your wife made with your brother & best friend and you're kid admitting that they never really loved or considered you to be their real dad.

Then the next day at work your boss fires you.....

Had you established a really big give-a-f*** about all of this well....

I am guessing that if that scenario played out in real life, the person to whom it happened was probably not the most attentive and loving husband in human history.

It is true that bad things happen, and we need to be able to accept that, but we should not cut off all human attachments *because* something bad might happen.

I used to always tell my students, failing is not failure, but not trying is.

That excuse is the one most often used to justify taking advantage of another...

I'm sure Hitler had to vilify the Jewish to his army before getting as many under his employ.

And don't forget those 17th Century "Witches."

Sure, some people are retaliated against for something they were doing wrong but the concept many people need to begin understanding is that often times innocent people are vilified to justify hurting them.

As for refraining from getting too involved:

As our frustration and hardships here discredit any true intelligence or wisdom in any other dimensional/existence (if so we would not have been introduced to this highly offensive existence first...those responsible for here and elsewhere would have been much kinder in heart and stronger in wisdom) so should the deceptions we've encountered in the past alert us to the fact that most people are around us are not clever enough to respect or appreciate anything deeply mature and dripping in sincere fidelity.

"Stupid is as stupid does."

Now go outside and have a good look around you....

I'm not saying to contribute to the hurt because this is all a tosser...I'm just saying don't try to build too big of a nest in a public toilet.

Again, it is true that there are bad people out there who do bad things. However, not all people are bad.

Uh huh, there's some truth in everything you're saying here.

----'depending' on one's perspective.

I won't be harsh, much!!

@bob_the_fisherman Said

When it comes to our perspective - or the way we perceive what we see, I think we are all wrong to varying degrees. I don't buy the idea that our perspective is true because it is 'true for us'. You only need to see a couple of solipsists together to work out that our perception is limited, fallible, and generally wrong.

Don't go too harshly on them, it is a common enough mistake, and one that's easily made...

bleh, I agree - dunno, either, but it does seem to exist --- a very observable difference between a general need of belonging versus
a constant and 'yes' desperate need for propping up or approval
before one continues a specific course of action --------- whatever it may be.

I think the most succinct way to get across what I'm saying:

In an existence that allows room for doubt and deception - I don't find it rational or logical to credence it with serious attention or expectation.
