When my stepdaughter was 2 years old, she met her uncle for the first time. Her uncle is black, and she licked her finger and started trying to clean his arm, so babies DO notice a difference. But I do believe ATTITUDES toward other races are taught.

And besides, if this was true, then there's a large percentage of the UK male population who would be "gingerist"

I have to admit, I don't like being called a ginger.

A 2 year old is a child not a baby. And when she was a baby- would never have had that cross her mind!

If you take a group of babies from different races, and put them together in a room. Do you think they notice a difference? Of course not. So racism born or taught?

I would have to say some children learn to be racist from their parents and others become racist through certain things that happen in society.

For example where i live there are many different cultures which is a good thing, personally i like cultural diversity. Unfortunately not all of the cultural groups get along though so intimidate one another, so really they're their own worst enemy sometimes.

Hmm i dont know if its taught or not,no one in my family is racist and compleatly condems it yet i am a very strong racist but was taught that everyone it equal. So that brings up the question if i was taught that everyone is equal how did i end up a die hard racist?

When I was a child, in the 1960s, there was a lot of racism expressed around me. It seemed to be an attitude that was prevalent, with West Indian and Asian people being called 'darkie' and 'paki', for instance. I was brought up with all that going on around me but I didn't absorb and perpetuate it.

I was playing with words. The premise of others that we are born racist does not make any sense. You stated you were taught to be, so I thought.....never mind!

It is no born or taught, it is learned. We teach it to each other in this way, by way of treatment one to the other.
