Sorry for being one of those people throwing THEIR (check your spelling) toys out of their pram.

It sounds to me as if you are suffering from a severe case of 'Tooting your own horn'
I mean, come on are we getting the full story here ? You do in 2 weeks what it took him 3 years to do There has to be much more to the story than you are giving us here.

For example, it sounds to me as if he has more work to do than you, and at a guess this work was given to you as a result. You say he was 'almost in tears' Do you derive some kind of strange pleasure from seeing a co worker in this state ?

Maybe your colleague is suffering from stress - you already said he has a wife and 2 kids, that in itself is probably going to cause some of it (how do you know what's going on outside of work with him ?) Coupled with the fact that companies continue to heap more on their workers for the same or less pay, more than likely he needs some help.

It's all to easy to come on to an anonymous forum such as this and harp on about how great we are at our job, and how crap our colleagues are. Perhaps we should try to help our fellow colleagues more.

Don't end up like my colleague who suffers terribly from Narcissistic personality disorder.

NPD symptoms are "a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy." More often than not called 'The God Complex'

Any of that sound familiar to your posting ?

And what is the meaning of as you wrote 'Build the client' ?

Are you building some kind of life size robot or something ?

First thing.. this isnt a place to be a spelling nazi, it doesnt get you friends of make you look clever.. You dont get tesco points for every word corrected.. AND.. I find it insultive.. god invented spell and grammer check for a reason... unless your the TFS version of that annoying paper clip in word...

so answers to your questions,

Any of that sound familiar to your posting ?

No, none of it, because you assumed all that, none of what you said couples with anything that is actually going on. Sorry to say mate. But not to worry, I will say that the person in question is failing in his job, and has not made the company money for 6 months. He blamed the market till I stepped in 4weeks ago, and proved his excuse wrong...

And what is the meaning of as you wrote 'Build the client' ?

Its a slang term that is used in my industry, where we have to build a relationship up with the client sign terms and agreements, along with maintaining that relationship and maximising the profit margin we get out of said client. I could write for hours about Business Development and how it needs to be done correctly.

Are you building some kind of life size robot or something ?

Classified.

Don't throw those toys out of the pram please !

I just need to correct you on something - I did 5 seconds of research and found that God didn't actually invent spell check, as you said he did in your reply above.

According to Wikipedia the following person did :
John Seely Brown (also known as JSB) is a researcher who specializes in organizational studies with a particular bent towards the organizational implications of computer-supported activities.
He invented spellcheck and received a standing ovation as the keynote speaker for University of Michigan's 2005 graduating class for this invaluable contribution to society.

1. Not to split hairs but you say above that you stepped in 4 weeks ago and proved him wrong, but in your original posting you said it only took you two weeks

2. I still think you should share more of the story, the actual business you are involved in etc, so that the rest of us can give a balanced view as to whether you are being fair to your colleague or not. After all I'm assuming Mark Fox is your real name, we know the area where you work and someone may know said colleague of yours here.

3. No I'm not a spelling Nazi and resent that four letter word being used in any context directed to myself or any other member of the human race. Find another way to express yourself please.

4. Having flown and worked with many ex military aircrew I would never expect this type of behaviour from them. The crew I have known would never use a public forum to insult a colleague in this respect. The old RAF motto of 'stiff upper lip !' e.g. get on with the job and don't moan about it.
