I have just had to take time off work as my childrens nursery is closed and we are all ill at the moment. I had already requested the time off and was told i would only be put down to work 1 day, however I was put down to work 3 with my employer knowing I had no childcare for the week. Another colleuge had offered to cover my shifts for me, so i agreed as I did not feel well enough to work. I have now been told i face disciplinary action as i did not notifiy my manager of the agreement before i had made it, although managment were aware i could not work this week. Can they do this?????

umm usually you have to have written warnings but some places get really pissy if you organise cover for yourself without going via the manager.

Anyways i would contact CAB or just suck it up.

seems petty if they were already aware and you showed initiative to get your shifts covered! I say f*** them and dont put yourself out next time! let your shift cover be their problem

Ask to see where it says in writing that you have to inform your manager that you organised cover for your shift.

If they do have it in writing (or even as part of your employment contract) then at worst they can give you a verbal warning.

If not then tell them that they knew all about this situation in advance and that you think they are bullying you.
