I have my lovebird Rocky for over 4 years now and he has always been really healthy and happy. Recently however, he started plucking his feathers out of his back. I took him to my vet and she gave him medication to clear the infection up. When his medication was finished the wound healed a bit but then he started to peck at his front. I took him back again and he got more medication. He has just finshed it a week ago but there is no improvement and he constantly looks unhappy. To make matters worse his life long mate died last month so he just looks depressed all the time. The only thing I can trace it back to is this one toy that was his favourite (he used to hump it) but my mum washed it, it fell into pieces and had to be thrown out. I bought him a similar one but he isn't interested in it. He's got a huge cage with swings, mirrors, bells and ladders and gets out to fly around every day so my vet says its not down to boredom. I really want him to get better because I can't get him a new mate until he does as birds are known to mirror one anothers habits. If anyone has any advice or tips on how to get him to stop pecking himself and to get his feathers to grow back I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Birdies take break-ups and lack of attention pretty hard so you want to make sure to keep giving him your love and attention until you can find him a new mate.
