people have probably studied it-- i must have heard the theory somewhere before...

as for infants? they simply don't have the capacity for such fears... it's like the instinct to procreate-- infants don't have sexual desires either, but it's more because they aren't developed enough for the instincts to show yet...

this is only what i think the origin of racism is though... when i speak of it being there to protect us from other tribes that may hurt us, i'm speaking of prehistoric times... we don't have the need for such a fear today, so our thought processes have overridden our instincts...

i think you have it backwards though... i think that we have to be taught not to be racist, at least through example-- i think the racism is our instinctual tendency...

Not been my experience. Kids all play together and do not differentiate between such differences at an early age. If it was instinct it would not be something that is turned on later in life (like the hormones you spoke of, unless there is a racism gene? LOL)- but would be there from the get go. Environmental experience is the major teacher here.

How can you explain the grandeur of the.. white nations in comparison with all the chaos in Africa? How can you explain why the whites got so good while the black people didn't do so well, without resorting to racism?

little kids don't have the capacity to differentiate... it's like the blatantly creepy old pedophile-- kids wouldn't realize that he's a danger to them; they wouldn't notice anything different about him at all... their brains simply aren't socially developed enough yet to understand such things...

i do agree that environmental experience is the major teacher, but again-- i think the kids would grow to have more racist tendencies if left to themselves... that's not to say they would grow to want to kill any who are different, but i think they would be a bit uncomfortable unless taught otherwise...

Do you people think that racism is born out of fear, ignorance or a superiority complex?

I would have to say...all the above! The idea of me thinking i'am better than anyone else is insane to me.....and like wise...no one is better then me!!!

it is born of our primal instincts... we are hardwired to be initially suspicious of those from another tribe, and to fervently support our own tribe over theirs... hell, for all we know that other tribe is savage and wants to destroy us-- it's just safer to stick to our own kind...

as for why some have still not rewired themselves? could be any of those reasons, or possibly that they still live a life where those primal rules hold true... it depends on the person...

I don't know about that.....I respectfully disagree.....I didn't find it at all instinctual to fear anyone.....including races and cultures that are not mine....I personally never knew anything about racism until I left the comforts of my own front yard!!! I didn't come out of the womb fearing or disliking anyone for any reason......and I sure as hell wasn't raised to feel superior or inferior to others who are not like me! IMO.....you simply don't know about racism until someone teaches it to you.....

Might be possible. I don't know that that is true or even a majority of truth. I think it is mainly a learned environmental trait. I think that studies have shown that infants do not show fear of others, it does not register as a difference until they are much older.
Anyone study this in their field?

Yes...and you are correct.....none of us are born racist.....you have to be taught that kind of evil!!!

I don't believe we have instinctual tendencies to be racist....how could you know what race is when you are born? There's no possible way.....my every memory of life (including childhood).....was to love others....no matter who they are.....God loves us all the same!! He just made the world a 'variety pack'!

that's because you were taught not to be racist long before you had the capacity for it to come forward... especially if you were in a biracial home... long before the instinct would have revealed itself, you were taught to override it...

First of all, we are ALL part of the Human Race. Skin color (pigment) is something we are born with and have no control over it whatsoever. If only we could all agree that we have so much in common and marvel in our differences.

Our commonalities (in part) are :
We all breathe
We all sleep
We all eat
We all blink
We all drink fluids
We all laugh
We all cry
We all need
We all want
We all hurt
on and on...

Our differences are something for us to learn from, explore, and be impressed by. It's fear that drives racism. Fear of the unknown. If only we could embrace our fellow Human Being no matter what color skin they have or culture they are from.

What if your life was in danger and some person of a different color was the only one who could save you... would you refuse? I think your racist attitude would go through a major revision at that moment.

It's just the way I feel. I love everybody no matter what they look like.

J.R.

JR, I couldn't agree more. People cause racism by their actions more than they do their color. Not all people living in mobile homes are trailer trash, but the ones that are give the rest a bad name. The news and media identify every crime by the color of their skin. This has to stop. If they are looking for a person, of course they need to describe the person.
Why is it that most crimes are caused by certain races in major cities? Just wondering.

If you remove color rocket and study the economic situation- you'd get a better feel for the answer.
And around here- though better, the media still says 39 yr old male & 25 yr old female when they are reporting people that are white And almost always black, hispanic, etc is always the modifier when they are not.

Really? I've always heard the media say "39 year old Caucasian Male" or "25 year old African American Female". It only makes sense. The point is to use as many descriptions as possible so someone might recognize them. Maybe they only ignore the "white" part in Kansas.

That would be great. It is past time that that is the standard. I did say they are making some strides in that direction.

But what i'am trying to say is....IMO, I believe we are NOT born with instincts to be racists.....I don't think it's possible.....and I STRONGLY don't believe I would have ever had the 'instinct' to be a racist.....yes it was not taught in my home to think anyone is not my equal.....and I was taught to look for the good in EVERYONE.....it wasn't until someone showed me racism, that I even gave it a thought....we all KNOW.....racism is WRONG.....and you have to learn racism and how to be a racist.....and I believe that most people who are racists and teach it to their kids.....believe that way by choice...some don't even think it's wrong!!! That's the kind of America we live in.....there are billions of us who aren't racists nor do we teach it.....we just NEED to change or accept it!! It's really very SAD!!!
