Wasn't really sure where to put this.

My parents have recently come back from Budapest and fell for a scam.

Some young boy came up to them with a map and told them he was lost, my dad being ever so helpful told him they were tourists and wouldn't know their way around, but my mum pointed out some bridges on the map.

A few moments later some men appeared and showed them police ID and asked if the boy had been offering them drugs or to buy fake money.

They told my parents that they needed to check their money, my mum handed over £500 and only realised later that £300 was missing.

I thought I would post this to warn others, this sort of scam could happen anywhere.

It's bad enough to be scammed, but to have been taken in by a scam involving a child is even worse.

The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe.

I was in Budapest this last year... I had no problems with scams or being ripped off. Both of our tour guides warned about it happening, and to be cautious and make sure you count your change.
One of the taxi cab ripped off people in our group, their currency is on forint which have a very high place value, so you literally have a 10000 bill

I wasn't specifically saying it only happened in Budapest, I just thought it was a scam that could happen anywhere that anyone could fall for and people should be warned about it.

My mum said they weren't warned about this sort of scam, just about counterfeit money. She's going to write to th eBritish embasyy (or whatever it is) and tell them about it so they can maybe warn others.
