Tinnitis and fibromyalgia seem to go together. It's just something that's always there and I've learned to ignore it. Maybe it drove me crazy. I'm also a musician and have worked in clubs and played in orchestras and bands. I was usually near those huge speakers. I know better now. I see an ENT regularly and find that have my ears kept extremely clean, helps a lot.

One thorn of experience is worth a whole wilderness of warning.

Good God,I didn't realize there was so many of us suffers around??I first noticed it when I was in my mid 30's and it drove me nuts to say the least. At first I thought it was something that would just pass by,but as we all know if anything it gets progressively worse and accepted it as being that way for the rest of my life.

I could be wrong in saying this, but I put down to working in Clubs that had very loud bands, and riding a Kawasaki 4 cylinder Motor Cycle, with a 4 into 1 exhaust system on it,and wearing a Full Face Helmet the constant roar of the engine was right there inside the helmet as I said,I could be wrong.

I don't know with the rest of you,but I find when I first wake up,it's not there, has anybody else noticed that??.

You have it too?
I haven't been able to sleep much and yes, it's worse when I don't sleep well.
Mine's very loud right now. Headphones don't work. TV, Music, books on tape, nothing works at night. 30 minutes - an hour and I wake up. Once I'm awake I hear it because I'm so tired and can't go back to sleep.
This is the main reason I'm here, something to do during noises of the night.

I think mine is more from injuries to my head and neck. They can't find anything but I can't make myself get in another MRI...

Hey everyone. I am new to this forum and is the first time i have posted to any forum period. THis ringing has been going on for a month straight now and everything aspect of my life has subsequently been changed. Going out anywhere that has even moderately loud music is out of the question. If i wasnt a hermit before then now i really am. How many times now have a had to turn down social gatherings etc. Tonight in particular i have a reached a sad depressing point. I'm only 24 and am questioning my very existance. Coming from someone who has never had thoughts of death this is all odd to me. These forums help with support!!!! I really dont know how to deal with any of this any longer! Habituate? it seems like every morning i have to do that. Those of you reading are the only ones who can understand what effect this has on ones life. I so feel like ive reached the end of my rope. Crying is something i dont deal in and coping with this affliction is unrealistic. How do you all deal?? I lay in bed in night wishing i could shave a few years off my life just to hurry and pass this thing that has unfortunetly allowed me to succumb. Sorry for the long post but it is 2:24 florida time and my life has seriously taking a turn for the worse. If anyone needs a nickname use my "rin tin tin"

I had it from as young as i can remember, then at age 17 it just went away until 2 years ago. There is always a chance it could suddenly go away. There is always a chance it will never go away.

I know exactly how you feel. I have wanted to smash my head against the wall until i was unconscious before now because of the ringing in my head.

And the worst part is the more that you think about it the worse it becomes.

You literally have to train your brain to ignore the ringing. The worst time is night time because you have no distractions.

There are some devices that play gentle noises while we try to sleep, they are not expensive. Try using one of those or a cd of sounds of nature. Running water sounds, bird song those sorts of things are great for distracting from the ringing noise.

Good Luck and hang in there

Had it for Years, sometimes don't even notice it,but very rarely.

I drove for a living most of my life and found the best thing was when I stopped at a certain Corner at the Traffic light, there was electrical interferance with the Cars radio, another high pitched squeal would cancel it out That was heaven to me

Hi,
i think my tinnitus came from clubbing until 6 in the morning all through my teens and early twenties. Sitting next to a speaker that was taller than me all night so all the way home all i could hear was a constant ringing. Didn't think much of the damage i was doing at the time, until the ringing wouldn't go away.THERE IS A CURE,THERE IS HOPE!!!!!!!!!!

Just wait for stem cell treatment to improve, then you can re-grow the nerves in your ears.

I am surprised as how many people here say they have it. Its normal to have some...often brought on by putting attention to it, but i actually thought this was quiet rare...at least not many people have it to where they notice it all the time or apart from the normal count. Who knew.

Yes I've noticed in the mornings after so called sleep the ringing is replaced with a hissing sound(almost like the sound of a water faucet). This is much better than the ringing. However as the day goes on the hiss turns into a ringing.

My Consultant told me that sound goes to 6 different parts of the brain before it is processed and they arent entirely sure whereabouts those are but one of them is f***ed up. SO i will be waiting a fair while before they find a cure

I've heard that tinnitus is caused by damage to the cilia in the inner ear.
My dad had it really bad, and it screwed with his balance something fierce.
That's what caused him to take a nose dive onto a concrete bumper. He never was the same after that episode.

Hi I started having ringing ears since Feb. 2009 following an operation with full anesthesia. No medication has helped so far besides frequency sound treatment called healtone. Acupuncture has helped for a day or two. However the sounds are really helping and the effect stays for at least a week. I cannot figure out how it works, but it does.
