I don't think your "flashgun" is working (properly). You can see shadows from other light sources in your picture, like the one from the microphone on the guitar-players forehead, or on the backboard... both, indicating that a dominant light source was above and to the right, while you were taking your shot. If the flash was synched with your camera's shutter, and coming from the same general area as your camera, those shadows would have been washed out, and others (less visible) would have been generated...

Nope, there is no other light sources, apart from a low blue light, which isn't in that direction though, the shadows can be caused by the flash gun itself

Oh, I wasn't using evaluative metering on this, probably the reason
