Sophos has one that runs quietly, updates automatically, has real time protection...only thing is, to be able to understand what it is doing, you have to be able to read Klingon!!!

Ok, I have eTrust anti-virus at the moment but that is utter s***. So I have decided to change but I want to know which is the best anti-virus software that I can get to protect my computer.

i am using Antivirus Wizard software which seem to be helpful for virus removal so i am preferring you to install this software.

AVG is good. And, it's free.

If you only want half the components.Full version is far better.

I've just read all the replies, some of the antivirus things I don't know,so no comment on them.

Norton I had"Once" and never again,it gladly let a virus through that destroyed my Computer,I was put onto AVG and downloaded the free version and let it do it's thing for a month or so,since then I bought the full version and couldn't be happier.

It all comes down to what YOU want and what you want in an anti virus.I will however say this much, with most anti viruses, you have to do a scan every now and again, since I got AVG,i've never had to do a scan,it informs me when it detects a threat and then it's up to you if you proceed with the site your on or not .
You've asked for opinions?,That's mine.

Im using AVG 9.0 right now and I have to say it's pretty imressive. It's awesome on the resource load, and it really stays up to date with definitions updates. Another anti-malware you may want to look into is Windows Defender, for those that don't already have it installed on your computer. Surprisingly, it's free from Microsoft and does a pretty good job when compared to other free anti-malware applications. As for firewalls, I hear ZoneAlarm is very good, yet annoying. Maybe there is a new version that doesnt have so many notifications.
