American Andre Agassi has admitted in his new autobiography he lied to tennis authorities about his use of crystal methamphetamine to escape a ban.

Eight-time Grand Slam winner Agassi said he wanted to share "my bad decisions which, in a few instances, nearly ended in catastrophe".

The 39-year-old, who retired in 2006, also stated it was "not easy being so candid" and "brutally honest".

Agassi admitted he used the drug with ex-assistant "Slim" in 1997.

Nowadays, it seems you can't trust anyone. What a shame that he felt he had to do this. What good is a win if you have to achieve it in an illegal or immoral fashion? You're cheating yourself, above all.

What gets me is that there are kids who idolise pro athletes. When the idols pull stunts like that, what kind of message are they passing on to those kids?
Before they do something like that, they need to think of the young people who will probably emulate that behavior because"if he did it and got away with it, so can I! Just look at what he was able to do on that stuff. If he/she can do it, so can I!!!"
