Hi everyone...tomorrow is a sad day for my dog. he will be getting castrated. Do you think it will affect his personality? My mother's jack russel became all depressed and old after he had the snip-snip...My pooch is such a busy body bursting with ego and personality. I want him to stay the same just without being agro towards other male dogs and wanting to run away the minute the door opens...

If anything, it should make him more docile and affectionate. My puppy didn't get depressed at all. He's so sweet. The only time he ever lifts his leg is when he's outside or in unfamiliar territory (the vet's office) so you shouldn't have to worry about that if he's fairly young. Mine was staying outside when I got him but he was only 5 months old. He had the surgery a month later and only has the occasional accident if I don't let him out in time. My female was spayed at the same time and she's not as grumpy. Haha! It's healthier for them to have the surgeries if you're not planning to breed them. Good luck.

I dont think it will affect a Jack Russel terrier at all.
The only thing it does it help it want to get out after a female.

I've never had that done to our dogs but I've seen dogs that had it done. They're very quiet for a few days due to the surgery but after that I didn't notice any difference in behavior except not having pups all over the place and people coming to the door complaining that the persons dog had got their female dog pregnant.

i have had a few male dogs, and three castarted (though my current one is keeping his balls, he become a proper father later in life ). none of them have ever changed, with the exception of Joey, but we castrated him the same time we put him on epilepsy pills for the first time, so i will never be sure what made him change slightly.

i would worry- it wont change his genetics

I had a mutt when I was little and getting him snipped didn't stop him from humping everything within eyesight one tiny bit.

He isn't the humpeee type (unlike some of our friends on the thread )
He is more a whizz against anything and everything. He also wants to pick a fight with dogs 10x his size.
Shame I can't wait to go and collect him this afternoon.

Oh and I have to say that I refer to my dog as a Wired hair terrier but actually he is a cross of who-knows-what and he has about 1cm overbite...haha he is so sweet but definitely not suited to breed with (although I will take every pup he ever makes). I will get him a Bride next year...someone to grow old with. Check out my profile if you want to see a pick of him. I don't know how to add the pic.
