While in college I slept for around 8 hours. Once I started working I had to actually stay awake for longer hours. I found a nap very useful and I was able to sleep for just 5 hours.
Even while in college I remember one period of two months when I slept for barely 5 hours a day. But then on weekends I caught up with my sleep and remained in bed for 10 hours though not at a stretch.
I think a lot of it is do with your body and it is worth experimenting with different sleep, work and play patterns.

Anywhere from 5-9 hours sleep. Usually about 5/7 hours lately.

I have only been in college for a week now but my homework is already piling up! This week I probably averaged about 5 hours. As things get even harder in my classes it may be less. I am the kind of person who wants everything to be right and that sometimes takes me a long time. I am hoping maybe to manage my time a little differently during the day to get in some more study time. Which would then also give me more sleep time at night.

I think time management skills play a big role. I'm actively involved in 2 organizations, somewhat involved in 3 others, work in a lab, am running my own research study, volunteer on weekends, and am taking a full courseload, but I have yet to pull an all nighter. I'm always planning things out and basically live off of google calendar. I get about 8 hours of sleep a night. There have been nights I've gotten more/less but I try to get at least 7 even then.

I got a lot less sleep in high school and was a lot less busy. So far in college, I've had a lot more work but a lot more time to get stuff done, and my schedule can be pretty flexible at times.

I tend to mix my patterns up alot. One week I'll make every lecture and get 4 hours a night, the next I'll sleep for 10 hours and miss all my morning classes.

I wonder what will happen when the people from my class get to college. They sleep like 9-10 hours a night. I would like about 8.5, but have been getting about 6 a night since school started.

On an average night about 5. I hate it, and it means I am always on the verge of burnout.

[Mind you, I take 6 classes, 18credits, which is above what most people do, and I go to a college with more work then most.]
