Free range means that animals get to walk about while they're living. They do not live in cages unable to turn around, standing in their own waste being force fed until they're slaughtered. Sadly, I'm not a moron. I know that they're not romping about in fields, playing like the happy California cows on television. I'm fully aware that they're still herded about in pens, but cattle are herd animals, and are quite comfortable being crowded.
As for rights violations.. Let's see.
Killing an animal slowly, and with great pain and suffering would count as a rights violation. Killing it quickly and with an absolute minimum of pain would not.
And none of this applies to chickens, as they're stupid and evil. They're so stupid that I doubt that they even know they're alive at all, and so evil that I care not if their deaths are slow and painful, unless it affects the quality of the meat.
chickens arent currently afforded many concrete rights - there are all manner of different rights that could be appropriate for any given being so to say
"killing it quickly with and absolute minimum of pain would not" (constitute a rights violation) is incorrect when you consider an example like the right to live out your natural life span.
how exactly is a chicken evil ? considering your 2 dimensional view of a complex creature I wouldnt personally nominate you as the guy who determines how self aware or psychlogically savvy a chicken is .
human babies probably arent aware they are alive for quite some time,i doubt you think them evil or burger worthy but their sentience, which they share with birds ... their ability to perceive and distinguish between pleasure and pain.
these are basic perceptions that are necessary well before a being can be considered able to understand morals or be evil like you described , you and i are far more capable of such things, perhaps if we mistreat and have complete disdain for creatures capable of suffering and actually worthy of our compassion ?
