ska was a force in the uk in the late seventies when there was lots of public frustration, lots of industrial action, and at the time a quite big following for the then national front.
it was a fusion of styles that both the early skinhead/rudeboy could associate with and also the young black man, its beat was addictive, it struck a chord with ordinary people- especially the working classes.
i have seen the specials three times, i went to see the beat, i still love the music today, but that is all it was to me- music.
