From ancient inscriptions, newly deciphered, comes startling evidence that Europeans had settled in America as early as 800 B.C.
astonishing evidence that there were men and women from Europe not merely exploring but living
in North America as early as 800 B.C.

I have just found this and have been been reading and researching it for about an hour or so.
This sure puts a lot of what we as Americans have always just taking for granted concerning the first people to settle Canada and the northern tier of the United States .

I thought Egyptians were there before, or at least South America. Didn't they find traces of cocaine inside a Pharoh's coffin?

I've read somewhere that cocaine and nicotine both was found in some of the tombs in Egypt. I'm looking for something about now.

Your post (link) notes (at one point), "In his recently published book, America B.C." which is 1976 vintage...not very recent.

That of course doesn't mean that it or Fell are wrong. He is very controversial, which (again) doesn't mean he is wrong.

There seems to be an absence of supporting work by other people.

Still, he is most likely correct that neither Columbus nor Erickson were the 1st to visit/explore the Americas.

I remember watching shows and books about the evidence of Chinese on the West Coast and uh, Scandinavian ...Vikings? on the East Coast.
Ah, love vague memories.

It's not really a the question of who visited or explored the Americas as much as who may have settled in the Americas . Like I said in my OP I have just found this and at this point in time have all of about 2 hours worth of reading/researching about it.
I found this about the guy that wrote the deal I linked to .
Dr. Barry Fell is an emeritus professor at Harvard University
Could you link to the info about his being very controversial ? I'd like to get all sides of this 'story'.

Yes. And I very much agree (or believe) that Europeans from as early as the last Ice Age all the way up to the vikings were coming to the americas...many having stayed and settled here.

Here is one web site...

And do not get me wrong...I think it very fascinating and I am in no position to really "poo-poo" Fell. History is full of "crack pots" who got it right and Fell does not appear to be a "crack pot" just somewhat controversial...or against the "mainstream".

Have you ever read some of the 'mainstream stuff from 70 or 100 years ago ? It seems anything that was found that didn't support / backup the ' European' or widely believed stories then it was generally deemed to be a hoax and buried in some closet somewhere. It's only been the last 2 or 3 decades that all those findings have come to light as actual artifacts .
Thanks for the link .

Yes. More and more people are turning back to writings of 100 or even 200 years ago. While the "science" was not always perfect, the documentation of some of the historical events is impressive.

There is a book...I think "1491" or something that talks a lot about the Americas before Columbus. Also one that talks about the Chinese sending a huge fleet to the Americas...I think I am confusing the titles, but anyway the information in these books is in part based on some historical records of 100 or more years ago.

Interesting stuff!

Well now see when I said main stream I didn't mean the actual recordings of the sites and artifacts written down by the Archaeologists . I meant the doctored reports the public was allowed access to . Your right about the actual recorded finds written by the people at the sites recording the artifacts as they were found on a dig that is interesting stuff.

There is a theory that the Clovis Culture that inhabited North and Central America from 13,000 BCE to 10,000 BCE were of European ancestry.

Around 10,000 BCE the Clovis people disappeared completely and around 9,000 BCE the Fulsom Culture appeared. DNA studies have shown that the Fulsom people migrated from Asia and are the predecessors of the Modern American Indians.

The arrowheads and spearheads used by the Clovis people are almost identicle to those used in Europe at the same time, while having no similarity to those found in Asia.

The Fulsom points match their Asiatic counterparts.

I am just starting to read about other parts of the US and the history of the people that lived in those parts of the country. Where I live is surrounded by ruins and artifacts and petroglyphs dating back to the Prehistoric Anasazi . Within a 2 miles radius of my house there are 4 ruins and within a 25 mile radius there are 3 state parks 'the Salina's " and several more ruins that are in different stages of desecration caused by everyone from the Spaniards to modern day artifacts hunters. less then a 1/4 mile above my place there is a petroglyph that is self explanatory to a native of this country. It is the symbol for water and on top or North there is a deer and at the bottom or south there is a coiled rattlesnake . The valley I live in has the Abo Canyon running though it and to the south of the canyon most all the water whether it be live year round springs or underground springs ,it's all gyp or hard water , my grand dad had it tested years ago and it's 88% mineral . To the north of the Abo Canyon all the water is all soft water live year around or under ground springs.
Another place here on the ranch there is a rock cliff about 50 feet long at the head of a blind Canyon and it has a couple of dozen petroglyph, there are several spirals some faces , and a map of the blind canyon . I have photos of these and will post them when i'm done here.
