I was running XP for a good few years with only 512Mb but you should be looking for between 2 and 4 Gb nowadays.

?I'm messing with ya, you should know that a computer isn't always as good as it's OS i could take my s***ty old laptop and install windows 7 ultimate on it and it would run (barely)
Just having windows 7 on a computer doesn't make it good, everything else counts to.
I have a good enough media PC right now that can play pretty much any game and i have both ubuntu linux and windows vista on it. (linux runs better.)

True but from what I've heard windows 7 runs faster then both XP and vista. Some people are calling windows 7 an apology for vista.

1gb is good for xp. If you want anything more than 3 or 4GB then you would need to get the XP 64x

Well yes it's designed to be a major improvement upon vista, with the same features and a load of new ones.
As far as i know it's being called that so that people who hate vista will buy it.

I think you need a 64 bit OS for 4 GB, i have 4GB but vista only recognises 3.
(When win7 is out i hope to get the 64 bit version.)

I never understood the hatred of vista. I'm running vista 64x and haven't had any problems or slow downs.

i think the problem was that people tried running vista on underpowered machines, and when they had the problems they blamed it on vista when in fact its was their underpowered machines fault.
