I tried the FAT32 to NTFS thing a couple of times.

One time it seemed to work OK. The other time the drive practically blew up. Absolutely nothing recoverable. Fairly impressive.

Did you have to make a dive behind a table?

What would you say would be the best course of action then for me?
I would really like to store my FRAPS files there instead of having a maximum of 30GB which is all that's free on my primary partition.

Keep the FRAPS files on your main HD until such time as you can reformat the external drive via NTFS.

I will note that it appears you have zero backups going here, unless I'm missing something. Data that's not backed up is data that you will lose.

I have all my music and video backed up onto other devices, like my iPod and i have a copy of all (make that about half of) my music and films in a compressed .RAR on my Linux drive for safety

Cool.

A tip for the RAR: add some PAR2 files. It's fairly easy for a RAR to get corrupted just a little, and if it does it sucks ass. Add a few small PAR2 files and verify its integrity every now and then and you won't have to worry about it.
