I live in Canada, so pretty impossible to have a herb garden outside all year round, and have limited natural light in my apartment. I moved my potted herbs, (Oregano, basil, chives, thyme and mint) inside for the winter. They were really thriving during summer and fall, but once I moved them inside they have started to die off. What can I do to save them?

I don't plant too many herbs indoors but I do know that herbs grow best in terracotta or ceramic pots because the materials are so porous.

Another tip is to choose a light potting soil with a high sand content to ensure good drainage. You’ll also want to add potting compost and a bit of extra sand to the mix to create the most favourable growing conditions for your herbs.

Indoor herb gardens should always be grown near a window, and preferably on a window sill. If you don’t have a sill, you can use a table or bench that’s close to window level. Choose a window in your home with a southern or western exposure...this will guarantee your plants get at least five hours of sunshine a day, even in the winter.

It's all about watering (this is why I hate this job lol) Most herbs need to be kept damp but not wet, so don’t over water in your quest for an abundant garden. Water with small amounts only, and encourage proper drainage by watering your potted herbs early in the morning or late at night.

If your plants seem waterlogged, you can spritz them with water from a bottle for a couple of days instead...and don't kill them like I end up doing lol.

I am who I am and who I want to be..please do not try to change me.
