Yes. Irrigation on crops that are totally unneccessary and pointless in an Australian environment. It is greedy and stupid to be growing cotton or rice in Australia.

I've only just seen this thread,and although there are some very good points put forward,except for the Galah who wanted to talk about war,there's one very good point that none of you have even thought about.

"Why is it that Storm water and Flood water is still left to flow out to sea,instead of being channeled into reservoirs for future use???",I know there's a lot of rubbish flows through as well,but can't most of that go to land fill or recycling??.

Projects like the Snowy River scheme would be built in todays world,the Greenies have far to much say,I haven't heard a word from them about what kind of impact a desalination plant would cause and the cost of what I suggested would be around the same as one of those plants,so why can't it be done??.

One of the biggest problems of all the past Federal Governments that I can see is they haven't really thought about what will happen in the future and made plans or created jobs by starting projects for the conservation of water,we are in a Global warming crisis,whether this be caused by us Humans or something the Earth goes through every few million years, we really don't know,there was a scream went up when scientists discovered the whole in the ozone layer and how WE had caused it,then it was realized it had been there all the time,just that they didn't have the equipment to know about it until then.

Water is the Life Blood of this Earth,and every year we allow millions of Liters of Rain water to just run down the gutters and out to sea,and I believe it's high time that WE the public had a say in what's been happening for years,let's face it,if we wash our car on the street and let the suds run into the drain we cop a fine for not only wasting water,but for polluting as well,yet the Water management sections of the Government can allow all the rain water to just run out to sea,maybe it just me,but I can't understand why????????.

What about Melbourne's 180 litre a day limit. It's so stupid, who measure how many litres they use a day?!?!?!?

Ummmmm ..... Suggesting a limit must be working because Melbournians are using less water.

In our area we have enough water to last us till the start of summer so you bet we are watching how much water we use.... much more so than those in Melbourne.
