19th of September is national talk like a pirate day.

Rules is this, ye talk like a Pirate all day! Some people (ie pirate obsessives like me) host pirate parties and dress up piratical! You drink beer, grog, rum, whisky or all things pirateY! Dress up like a pirate, talk like a pirate, and most important act like a pirate!

Anyway, posted this early to give people ample warning. I know that the friday avy theme is up at the moment, but I think this should become featured topic on Saturday (the 19th) so we can all be ready for national talk like a pirate day!

I think since most people do not know how to talk like a pirate this day should be scrapped.

Me and tash did this all day in colchester. Ho hum. Turns out no one else knew of this occasion, and just thought we were insane.

You will receive ships punishment fer that! You 'll be kissin the gunners daughter fer certain! AAAARRRRR!*

*"Kissing the gunners daughter",is a punishment used aboard ships of the Royal Navy, and amongst pirates and privateers. It consist of tieing the sailor to be punished, to a cannon and lashing them with a CAT O NINE TAILS. A whip with multiple heads. Or with a ropes end!

Sometimes I help in a high school senior English course where the students read Beowulf, a story in which men drink, wench, and belch, in a way that one might imagine might be a piratical sort of way. The teacher thinks that the Aah Err sound, which we associate with pirates, might be a more form of belching.

It may indicate a raising of the left cheek in BEOWULF!
But amongst Pirates many of whom originated in the seaport town of Bristol,it is merely the Bristol version of saying the Celtic affirmative AYE!
