Try DirectNic.com. IF you have your domain registered through them, you can have your own web space.

I have been hosting a site there for years.

Of course I have by main site, the one I am named for, hosted on a paid server, but for my money, DirectNic.com is where you should start.

It all depends on what your looking for, I have a site at a place called www.000webhost.com, it has theis featurs the main reason I chose it was it had free PHP support and MySQL as well.

Wetpaint. Its fast, and fun. There has been over a million websites created off it. it has some fun feautres
1. top 100 websites by votes (im in the 30's)
2. Awards given every award
3. pick a topic to go off of

You will find free webhosting on AngelFire. Its good, has a certain amount of controlled templates but if you know html you can get around it ok. Not sure whether you can upload/download your entire site with say Dreamweaver, you would have to check that out if needs be.

free web host are not the way to go the are down most of the time tale a long time to load and some put ads on your site you can get a cheap plan at godaddy.com

The main problem with using free web hosting is they put adverts on your pages which usually spoils the design. Thats what the price is, losing complete control of your website.
So you really have to pay to have a decent website or maybe you get a free website with your server provider.
