22/F/Near the river, Minnesota Join Date: May 2006 | Ok. So I work for a college and I need to request a transcript from Cameroon, Africa. The website for the school is in French, so I need to write an e-mail to them. I have tried using the translating websites and using Microsoft translation, but they all come back with a different translation, some of them quite weird.
I'm hoping that someone who can speak/write French can help me. Below is the e-mail I would like to send. I know that there are some words that won't translate to French, but if I could just have someone get the general translation, I would appreciate it.
Here is what I want to say:
Dear Records Department,
I would like to request an official transcript for a student of yours. They have signed a release of records form. I would like to know how much official transcripts cost and where to send the form to, either by mail or fax? If you could let me know, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Cher département des records,
Je voudrais demander une transcription officielle pour un élève. Il a signé une forme de libération des records. Je voudrais savoir le prix d'une transcription officielle et où je dois envoyer la forme, par e-mail ou télécopie? Si vous pourriez let me know - I had trouble translating this, maybe Saegespaene can help?!, je l'apprécierais. Merci.
Veuillez agréer,

It isn't perfect but it makes sense, I think.
Si vous pourriez m'informer de cela, je l'ápprécierais.
I still say they should have no problem with English!!!
Look at their Prime Minister's web-site:
link [www.spm.gov.cm]
This school doesn't have a similar Français/English selection on their web-page? C'est incroyable!

According to what I have read, the languages of both English and French are 'official in this relatively new republic, so what is the hang-up? Just because a web-site is presented in the French language, that doesn't constitute any reason to assume that no one there will be able to understand, or find someone to understand, correspondence in English.
I didn't mean to assume that they couldn't speak English. I just wanted to e-mail them in French, just in case.
I forgot to say that I will be e-mailing the letter in both English and French (in the same e-mail). I just thought it would be polite to write the letter in French.

I looked at you 'link' -- a page on the utdallas.edu site, but when clicked on the link to visit the school site, I got
...this error message, indicating that the site (at best) is down, or... at worst, doesn't exist.
If I can't raise this site, how can you send them e-mail????

As much as I hate to admit it Saggypanties is right! If you really want a translation find a Quebecois tfs subscriber! There are a few!
La petite Sue is one! But she is not on line now!

Would love to help you, but am afraid my French isn't good enough for that.
Hope you can manage to get it ok.
Good luck.
