Nope, sorry, but that isn't the case. It wasn't in the past, and it isn't now.
Many punk bands covered many different things, including emotions and thinking and such. Punk music had more to do with the fact that it was played fast and hard. Hell, many of Black Flag's songs were about beer and drinking - what's so political about that? But if they weren't punk at all, then what were they? And what the hell could be considered punk?
that is another misconception about punk...everyone thinks punk is about getting drunk and f**ked up on something....i find nothing punk about this...by the way...black flag is another overrated band...they arent realy all that underground either..and i never said that they had to be completly free of emotion either..i was refering to the emotions of "falling in love" and all that bulls**t...the only emotions shud be the heart and soul that goes into the rebelion. we arent out to tell you about how my heart was "smashed" by my ex-girlfreind, we want you to become aware of the lies, the hate, the greed, and the just pure f**king power hungry animals that are out there. i have no problem with you if u want to listen to emo and such..but please get ur steriotyping correct here...[/rant] | | |

I'm just saying, punk doesn't have to revolve around rebellion. No, punk isn't about getting drunk and such, but it doesn't avoid those subjects, that's for sure, especially considering how self-destructive punk is - drugs are a quick way to "live fast, die young."
And if a song about "falling in love" is done well, it can still be punk. It depends on the quality of the band, their playing ability and their song-writing ability. A lot of bands write only love songs and sound awful and call themselves punk, yeah, but some punks bands (who really are punk) can do love songs and make them good. Strong emotions that aren't "revolutionary" can exist within the punk scene.

Amen and Hallelujah...
Punks can sing about anything if it is in the right mind set, and it will still be punk.
(drinking and getting f**ked up is hella punk, by the way, but so is being political and challenging authority.)
Being in love is punk as f**k...
...But I do agree, although The Descendents are punk, they have turned pretty soft... not something I enjoy too much.
...life doesn't begin until you start living it...
