24/F/Houston, Texas Join Date: Apr 2008 | white chocolate actually IS chocolate. It's derived from cocoa, just like regular chocolate is, the only difference is it doesn't contain theobromine, a compound that makes chocolate have the brown color it has, and gives it the chocolate flavor.
Just like regular chocolate, it's made of cocoa butter, sweeteners, and milk. It just doesn't have that added extra element that makes chocolate chocolate. (Which, incidentally, means it's the ONLY kind of chocolate I can eat...)
I know a lot about theobromine, but it's only because it's something I can't have, so yeah. Sorry if I ended sounding all professorial or snooty.
