So the answer to the original post in my opinion is ...
Yes it does "affect" or have an "effect" on Kids.

However the kids deciphers this is a total different issue.
but Video games just like Tv radio and anything else.. affects kids.

they're only games.
games that are 18 plus are that for a reason, if some idiot parent doesn't supervise the games their kids play then thats their own issues.

i would support a better system of rating in games, right now its all very up in the air.

but none should be banned.

just as in films or books anything of an adult nature can affect children, i don't think its very serious though it can't do that much.

A recent study by Harvard determined it may increase aggressiveness but in NO WAY makes kids turn "evil" and steal cars, run over hookers, or kill people.

That's still Mtv!

Well, they certainly do, but it's up to the parents' responsibility to guide their children on morals. It's okay to play games like GTA as long as their parents tell them what's right and what's wrong.

In my opinion certain games desensitize them.

For instance with very violent games they get points and see heads come off and shoot at virtual people that in reality would really harm or kill the people and for killing people they would get jail time or worse.

So it can affect how they perceive the real world without anyone noticing it and just shrugging their shoulders and saying " It's just a game and my child knows the difference between fantasy and reality". Do They??

By the time we actually find out if this is true, they may already be in serious trouble.

Yeah if an underage kid plays a game that shows explicit material they are not supposed to see then of course it will effect them, having said that though if they are able to get hold of a game like that with their parents knowledge (I'm assuming they have parental consent) it wont have that much of an affect as there's a good chance their parents arn't the best parents ever...
