But, punk is a very distinct genre, with a specific identity that is at the heart of who some people are. The problem is not that EMO exists, its the fact the people (EMOs or not) try to put into the same genre as punk. It clearly is not. If there is any relation, it is only superficial, where they try to have a similar sound to punk, but the soul of punk is lost in there music. When you start to classify music like EMO into punk, you dilute punk, and take away its meaning, its purpose, its identity.
EMOs leave punk alone! your not punk!
So very true!
Its not so bad that emo exists, its just that a lot of emos try to claim to be punk, and try to claim that their music is punk, when it is very obviously NOT!
It is insulting to the ACTUAL punks because they are ruining the name PUNK. Now, instead of people seeing some guy with a mohawk and studs and thinking "Now that guy is punk" they see some rich emo kid with his hair swept over one eye, in his skin tight pants, and they think "punk". That is what people are mad about.
"Punk" used to be looked down upon, which is what we like.
Punk used to be underground and angry...
Now, punk is fashion. I think thats bulls**t. People are buying t-shirts at Hot Topic that say "punk rock" on them, or have an anarchy sign on them and think they are automatically punk by wearing them.
Anyway, I say down with emo, up with punx!
...life doesn't begin until you start living it...

Haha I totally agree. I always see these little scene kids with a shirt saying "punk rock chick" or something stupid and I have to laugh.
