I live in bloomington, in. and was working for an auto parts store in martinsville, in about a 30 minute drive daily, but any way 2 of my fellow co-workers made several comments involving racial slurs, so I contacted the Human Resource Dept. They issued the 2 employees a first and final notice and were told by the District manager not to retaliate against me due to the letter, when the DM talked to me about it said this type of thing was to expected in this town, I was shocked maybe in bars or clubs but not in the work place should ever be tolerated.But any way one of the employees quit that day and the other confronted me the very next morning and threatened me with the Store Manager standing right there and had the nerve to say I think he's trying to apologize ,believe me he was'nt and every time the manager was'nt which was alot the emplyee tried to make me mad this went on for weeks so one day i called in sick and called the regional district manager and told him was going on, and all he could say was you need to get back to work(i had the highest sales the whole time I was there) and ignored the problem, so i did not return to work i emailed the Corporate office over a month ago and they still have not responded, so I applied for unemployment, they denied me and said i quit for personal reason, I am so confused how puting up with racial slurs in the work place is a personal reason, can some one direct me on wher to go from here, I am a father of 2 and have been looking for work, but its hard to find a good paying job in today economy, please help i need suggestion,

Very sad to see you suffered all this and probably too long ago for anything I say to be any help. I know exactly what you're going through or have been through . I probably couldn't have helped you either but maybe it would have helped for you to know somebody cared . I hope things are working out OK for your family too. It'd would be nice if we could get justice but sometimes you've got to do the best you can even though it seems unfair. Maybe there'll be enough of us one day to fight back against this kind of institutional racism.

What exactly is a racial slur? Could it be that people are too sensitive.
If someone calls me a white bitch, for instance, is that a racial slur? I think not. I would object more to the 'bitch' part that I would to the 'white', because white is what I am. So where's the slur?
if I called someone a black bastard, that would probably be classed as a racial slur but actually its not. If he is black.

I have not said a racial slur since Sunday.

First of all the people you complained about should have never found out you did it. You can sue. lawyers love cases like this. Also you should have never been reprimanded. If I were you I would call a free legal advice hotline and see what your options are.
