I dare any of you to produce one law that requires the citizens of the united states to pay a direct income tax. The IRS is a private corporation and is basically running the biggest scam ever. There are laws in place that make taxes on things you buy, but it is unconstitutional to tax the money you make.

Recently, a man was found not guilty when the jury of his case failed to produce any law requiring the man to give his money to the irs.

But yet you offer no link. Are you talking about Wesley Snipes? Well he did beat the big charges, but faces jail time for failing to file his income taxes.

People are living longer than intended, and about a zillion baby boomers are about to retire.

Sixteenth Amendment

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Not when there's no roads to get to work on. Or maybe they'll all be toll roads.

I thought the tax on fuel was supposed to cover that. Maybe not?

OK, please keep in mind the last time i looked over the income tax was two or three years ago so some of what I say might be a bit off but Im pretty sure its accurate.

Yes, the sixteenth amendment did grant the government the power to take in taxes from basically wherever the higher ups see fit and thx to this amendment taxes, even if direct, are not required to be apportioned equally among the states. BUT the supreme court later found in a case and ruled that it granted no new power of taxation, which means it still has to fall under one of the three taxes, direct, indirect or excise and still must be apportioned if it is a direct tax.

The three definitions of direct, indirect and excise taxes are, in a nutshell, as follows: (keep in mind these are loose definitions)

Direct tax must be apportioned equally among the states on a basis of population.

Indirect tax is basically the sales tax, taken from retail sales, goods and services tax and I think it's also called a value added tax. As a rule of thumb, it can be avoided simply by not purchasing the product in question, if that helps.

Excise taxes are those taxes imposed of sales of business manufacturer, or for business license/charter.

The income tax doesnt fall under any of these three "acceptable" forms of taxes as defined in the constitution and therefore, is illegal.

And also, you say there'd be no clean water or services that are provided by the income tax. Honestly, do you think the United States, as a country, wouldn't be able to reform in the IRS was abolished or for that matter do you think the country would just collapse? If I'm correct we had a rather large figure indicating that government was spending MUCH less than it was gaining in terms of tax income before we went to Iraq.

Granted right now the system and where the moneys going works differently, but in peace time when we do have such positive figures indicating the national income, do you think its possible that you're creating this massive need where really we'd be fine without it?

AND FINALLY Im sry for the really long post but for a more detailed reason, please see this link. link [www.perspectives.com]

income tax over 40% discourages people fromk engaging in private enterprise and business. Tax under 15% means that poorer members of society, uni students and old people, and diasbled have no social support and no income, and often commit suicides or crimes to survive.

Income tax anywhere between 20% and 35% is optimal.

Taxation without representation is illegal...but we are now represented...even if we don't want to be.

Did you know that according to wikipedia (grain of salt) that US citizens working in Antarctica are required to pay income tax, because Antarctica is not considered a foreign country therefore it is exempt from the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit (2007-01-16). Appeal from the United States Tax Court No. 8866-03. No. 06-1934. Open Publishing. Retrieved on 2005-07-06.

However, the US Supreme Court had previously stated that Antarctica was a foreign country in Smith v. United States, 507 U.S. 197 (1993). Currently OSHA and U.S. Labor laws do not apply to U.S. citizens working in Antarctica. Also, things like cigarettes sold there bear the "for use outside of U.S." seal, and the mail system for American Antarctic stations is the A.P.O. military mail system. Furthermore the Antarctic Treaty System, signed by the United States, states "Article 4 - does not recognize, dispute, or establish territorial claims and no new claims shall be asserted while the ?

WTF???

Yeah right. Do you really think politicians will give up that kind of power?
