Why do we have to have weather!? We aren't allowed to control it, we just try to figure out what's going to happen. It sucks. Today, it was windy, and yesterday it snowed, and tomorrow it's gonna be hot as hell! I hate spring.

It doesn't go away, that's why if not previously defined "it" refers to the kind of weather. Think about it, all other antecedent pronouns need to be explained beforehand, but not it.
