A cold Arctic northerly airstream should become established over Scotland during Saturday spreading to all regions of the U.K. by Sunday, and persisting into the new week.
Significant snowfall is expected over Highland Scotland on Saturday, spreading south to affect most of Scotland, NE/Eastern England, and as far south as East Anglia and Northern Ireland during Sunday. There is also a moderate risk of wintry showers in exposed coastal areas of North/West Wales and the Southwest.
During Monday further showers, or at times longer spells of snow, are expected over the North and East of the U.K., including Northern Ireland; heavy snow showers should continue to affect West Wales and the Southwest.
The snow, coupled with strong winds, should lead to blizzard like conditions at times, with some drifting of snow in exposed areas. Some disruption to transport is inevitable.
Areas most at risk and likely to see significant disruption:
Saturday – Northern and Highland Scotland
Sunday – Scotland (except the Southwest), Northern and Eastern England, Northern Ireland.
Monday - Scotland (except the southWest), Northern and Eastern England, Northern Ireland, West Wales and the Southwest.
