There is no one "sentence structure" for French any more than there is for English.

Or:

what I mean is, are there exceptions.
for instance I've heard something about there being a different way to describe things.

like
"I like the blue car"
I heard someone say that it would be something different like
"I like the car of blue"
Can someone clear up this mess for me? Which is which?

"J'aime la voiture bleu"

All your saying is "I like the blue car"

But yeah, in some sentances it does work like that, for example -

"L'anniversaire de Laura" should translate as "The birthday of Laura" But it means "Laura's birthday"
