US - 2,530 million
China - 2,430 million
Russia - 600 million
India - 529 million
Japan - 363 million
Germany - 323 million
Australia - 205 million
South Africa - 201 million
UK - 192 million
South Korea - 168 million

But......

A study of the world's power stations has shown the extent to which developed countries produce more carbon dioxide per head than emerging economies.
Australians were found to be the world's worst polluters per capita, producing five times as much carbon from generating power as China.

The US came second with eight tonnes of carbon per head - 16 times more than that produced by India.

The US also produced the most carbon in total, followed by China.

The Carbon Monitoring for Action (Carma) website is the first global inventory of emissions and looks at 50,000 power stations.

Its data was compiled by the Center for Global Development, a US think-tank.

Yet i feel we in the UK will be hit hard with Green tax, road tolls, stupid bin collections etc. The UK is a drop in the pond to the rest of the worlds CO2 emitions.

The only way to plant an oak forest is by planting that first acorn.

The only way to run a marathon is by taking that first step.

We ALL have to help.

I notice that people are happier compiling information then they are actually doing something about it

we are a tiny little country compared to russia and china and america. how many englands would fit into russia? how can we even start to compare when our land mass and population is no where near what chinas is? come on. we all need to make our contributions no matter how small they are but things need to be in perspective. we have high taxes anyway

No offence to Americans, but if we aren't copying them, then it's the other way round, so we could be setting an example to them.

How large is your manufacturing base compared to USA or Russia.?-- North America relys on private transportation too much so we produce pollution with our private cars. unfortunatley, it's the nature of our continent that governs this and until cheaper and more convenient public transport happens we will continue to drive cars to work and shop.

Australia has been the worst polluters per capita for as long as I can remember.
Our power stations are the worst in the world for polluting I believe.
We have an election here next week and I will be interested to see what happens as far as tackling our carbon emissions problem. Both the major parties are talking about so called clean coal power plants. ( Carbon sequestration).

We have so much space, and sun, and wind here to use true renewable energy technologies but it looks like we still have too much coal left for the major parties to ignore.
Oh, then of course there is all our Uranium for our future nuclear power plants.
we could be leading the way here with renewable clean energy production, but we are nowhere near doing that.
