The Bronx Bombers scored a jaw-dropping 49 runs in four games against the Devil Rays. Every starter had at least one hit in the game. A-Rod moved within two home runs of 500 for his career, when he hit his 34th of the year in today's 21-4 a** stomping!
Shelley Duncan and Andy Phillips are quickly emerging as superstars in a lineup loaded with All-Stars.
Andy Pettitte (6-6) allowed 3 runs, 8 hits, and 3 walks in a lackluster six inning performace. He also recorded six strikeouts on the day. Sean Henn and Mike Myers allowed 1 run in relief.
The Bronx Bombers forced the Devil Rays to use their mediocre bullpen more than they ever intended to in this series. They had no choice, because the Yanks showed no mercy in lighting up their starting pitching. James Shields (6-

With the game tied 3-3 going into the fourth, the Bombers cranked up the heat: Robinson Cano got the ball rolling wih a triple. Cano scored on a single by Andy Phillips to make it a 4-3 game. With one out and two on, Andy Phillips scored on a Derek Jeter single to make it 5-3. Bobby Abreu stretched the lead to 6-3, when Melky Cabrera scored on his single. A steal by Jeter and a throwing error lead to another run for the Yankees.
Hideki Matsui followed an A-Rod walk with a single that scored Abreu, and pushed the lead to 8-3.
Shields was lifted and the bullpen took over. With two on, Posada singled in A-Rod, which made it 9-3.
Cano, who tripled earlier, hit a single that scored Matsui, and extended the lead to 10-3. A wild pitch by Casey Fossum put the Yankees in perfect position to add to their lead.
With two on and two out, Shellley Duncan punctuated the ten-run inning by hitting a three-run home run. The Yankees now lead by a score of 13-3.
With the Yankees leading 14-3, they inflicted even more punishment in the sixth. Shelley Duncan made it 15-3, whe he hit his second home run of the game to deep left. Miguel Cairo gave the Yankees a 16-3 lead, when he scored on Abreu's double. With one on and one out, A-Rod who went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs on the day, stepped to the plate and smacked a two-run homer to left center that gave them a 18-3 lead.
With the Yankees leading 18-3, Robinson Cano pushed the lead to 20-3 on his two-run home run. With two on and two out, Melky Cabrera ended the scoring onslaught when his single scored Andy Phillips.
7 players had at least two hits for the Yankees. Hideki Matsui went 5-for-6 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs on the day.
