A new vulnerability has been discovered which allows a hacker to have access to your machine simply by placing a special cursor image in the html of their website. Because the cursor image loads automatically, the file has instant access to your computer as soon as you enter the page.

You are not vulnerable to this if you use Firefox or Opera.

Even if you don't normally use those browsers, I would strongly suggest that you do not use Internet Explorer until this is patched.

This is an unpatched exploit in the wild. Your computer can become infected by simply visiting a site in IE.

Please switch to Firefox or Opera, at least until this is patched.

Microsoft says IE7 is safe.

But considering the majority of people are using IE6, I'd think MySpace isn't a real safe place to surf right now, is it? Can myspace profiles use animated cursers?

IE7 in protected mode on Vista is safe. IE7 is not in protected mode by default.

IE7 on XP is vulnerable, and IE7 on Vista is vulnerable by default.

Only Internet Explorer is vulnerable because the flaw is in how Internet Explorer handles animated cursors. Other browsers have their own programming to deal with cursos and thus don't have the same flaw.

Oh, Ok. I always use firefox anyway, so I guess I'm ok. Do you think Myspace is going to do anything about animated cursors on profiles?
