What is your take on Facebook and Relationships? Do you think that Facebook destroys them or makes them stronger? Do you think that in this day and age it is necessary to make relationships "Facebook official?" If one were to begin a relationship with one that he/she has fallen for, do they have to make it known throughout Facebook? Explain.

I would have thought facebook hinders relationships. That siad, yeah I have my status updated to say that I am with him but apart from that we dont talk there. We dont talk here either much , its best to keep relationship stuff seperate from the rest of the world. I am proud to be with him which is why I have my status as such

IMO, if Facebook ruins a relationship...one that existed before the couple joined...the relationship wasn't good to begin with.

So many teens start and end relationships over FB(daily it seems). But teens have been starting and ending relationships in short order for decades. It's just even more public since FB started.

Sometimes, it's just the newest way to say "This is my bf/gf"...and lets see how much drama will ensue.

If one wants to announce it over FB(regardless of age), doesn't bother me. They don't have to do it that way, but that info option is there, so may as well use it I guess.

What I see with my daughter and her friends is they love nothing more than to post "in a relationship".....so what??? It's the social media of our time, I don't think it either makes or breaks a relationship actually.

The only thing Facebook and the likes of them have done to really harm relationships is that they have given other avenues to break them off instead of facing your partner and breaking them off like was used in the past.

It's made people of all ages cowards at breaking off relationships and leaving the partner wondering 'why' and never having to give reasons.

It's taken away the 'communication' that was so and still is so very hard to attain in the first place. Hasn't helped making people own up to their actions because now they can do it in public for everyone to see and don't have to account to the person in reality.

New break-up technique and sent the old communication back over 100 years in my opinion.

Everyone has to know everything except the person that should know it first and foremost. No privacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note: This is not directed at every single person which uses this social network but I think it's in the majority rather than the minority now.

What in the world does facebook have to do with a relationship?

Relationships,.. mature and serious ones, are a private thing.

Even though it doesn't happen to everyone who is in a relationship and posts it on Facebook, by doing so sometimes, when others know who you're with trouble begins. People tend to communicate less and less on there. People will make a fuss throughout facebook about who you're with and nothing, but nonsense continues. I see it as pointless even though to some it's not a big deal. Some people don't call it an official relationship unless it is shown on Facebook.

To teenagers and some young adults, almost everything. I agree that the mature and serious relationships are private, but sometimes when they want it to be that way(depending on who it is), they don't want it to be official until it is on Facebook and still expect it to be private later on when they have at least half of one thousand.

That just sounds like a lot of silly, childish, and superficial bulls*** to me.

That's what it kind of is. I'm not for the whole Facebook official thing anyway. I want as little as people in my business as possible.

Good way to be, because let me tell you, PEOPLE can be, and are rotton! They will drive a wedge between you and try to create problems or break you up; especially if they think you are happy. People can be jealous that way.

Nobody needs to know your business, or share in your happiness except you and your significant other. (or your family)...
As for facebook; I can see putting on your status perhaps that you are in a serious relationship, but leave it at that; just to let folks know, and so that nobody hits on you.

I will because my trust is really starting to be limited and when I get in a relationship, I'm going to be very careful.

A relationship isn't official until it's on facebook

I updated my status to in a relationship a lonnnnng time ago and when we got married I updated it to married. Apart from that facebook has nothing to do with my relationship and I don't actually see how it could. We live together so our communication through facebook is nil.

I agree. If facebook has negative consequences with the relationship there is something wrong with the relationship to begin with.

Didn't read more than this comment.

I totally agree that relationships should be private but I've seen full grown people and younger ones actually play their whole relationship out on facebook.

I have no idea why people are doing that.
