lilkatangel![]() Northglenn, Colorado | #1 I used to write all the time, poems, fan fiction, short stories, songs, even was working on a novel with a friend for a couple years. Now the only writing I do is my blogs and emails. i want to get back into it but never seem to have any good topics when I have time to write? Has this happened to anyone else? How did you get past it?

lilkatangel![]() Northglenn, Colorado | #2 Wow, I can't even type a title without skipping a word. Clearly, this situation requires caffeine.

sister_of_mercy![]() London, United Kingdom | #3 I'm the same, pretty much. I used to write music posts on my blog regularly but I haven't had the motivation for a while now. Also can't seem to focus for long enough to do any revision or my 4000 word essay that's due in a fortnight. Usually to-do lists and coffee sort me out, but not feeling that at the moment either.

Not really, just when I've been required to write about something I wasn't interested in. My theory is that writer's block is you telling yourself this stuff is boring OR you've gone up a blind ally. If the latter, just put it away and if it never comes up again (in a dream or a drug induced stupor Write about what you know about and what interests you. If you don't have writer's block on your blogs etc. that sort of validates what I just said. P.S. A novel is the hardest thing to write, for me anyway. It think is shorter clumps so I just go with that.

Five_Tailed_Fox![]() Cottontown, Tennessee | #6 I think writer's block is trying to write when you shouldn't be. There's one very cool thing that I learned in a creative writing class. Every day (or thereabouts), you write down something that inspires you or makes you think or otherwise affects you, in some way. It can be a quote, a thought, an idea, an image, whatever. You just jot it down and put it in a box. (It could be a metaphorical box, like a simple Wordpad document on your computer.) When you're trying to write, you can open the box and see what all is there, things you may have forgotten about entirely but still inspire you. Now, it can be hard to find even one thing to write about every day, but once you get into the habit of it, it's not hard to do. We all see and think about so much every single day, and even if it's mundane stuff, that has its place in writing, too. Another tip from the classes I took was to designate a specific time to write every day, like from 9am-10am. Every day, have that as your time to sit at your desk or computer and try to write. Even if you sit there staring at a blank screen for an hour, it will at least be your writing time, and eventually you'll get used to the idea that that is when you're supposed to be writing. Routines can be astonishingly effective. It's how the brain works.

How did you get past it? Believe it or not, it has happened to me as well. It has been months since I actually sat down and wrote poems. I want to start back on it, just on a better and stronger note. I even decided to cut down on certain things so I can focus on writing again.
