Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #16 @scooterbug1879 Said ![]() I do not belong to any religion in particular or put myself or my beliefs into a box. I do believe in and love God/Jesus. I listen to all religious radio channels and research all also. I find things in all religions that I believe could be truth. I do have a question about the catholic religion though. Catholics call their priests father, but it says in the bible, very easy to understand that you are not to call any man Father....... Kind of curious as to why thy disreguard this part of the bible and do the exact opposite. Scooter - What exactly is it that you're calling a 'God'? I ask because there are various theories that involve creationism - Most common is a disembodied and eternal mind which is, essentially, all of us collectively, which is concentrating us into solid matter from atoms and energy. While others have considered that we might be clones or androids produced from a highly advanced society - With us perhaps being members of that society with impeded memory and using the mechanical bodies in this existence as disposable surrogates to our true eternal bodies.

scooterbug1879![]() , | #17 Yes, I am a christian. I believe in God and Jesus as my savior......In my mind that makes me a christian, rather you agree or not. You don't have to belong to a cerain religion to love God. Religion is the devil's way of dividing God's people and everyones excuse to judge others based on their religions specific standards, not God's

| tariki Deleted ![]() , United Kingdom | #18 Hi scooterbug, your question reminded me of an old joke. Stop me if you've heard it......... There was a community of Catholics in Ireland, and their priest had to go into hospital for a long stay. In his absence he arranged for a Protestant vicar to look after their needs and problems. Anyway, they are all in the local pub (drinking house) discussing the situation and one of them said..."Well, I don't mind, but I have no idea how we would have to address him. What exactly do we call him?" They all agreed that this was a problem that needed sorting, so they elected one of them to pop around to the vicars home and ask. The one elected knocks on the vicars door and explains the situation, and asks his question. "Well, what do you call your Priest?" asks the vicar. "We call him 'father' " answered the man. "Then call me 'father' " replied the vicar. The man thanked him and returned to the pub. Reaching it he was asked for the answer given and said..."You won't believe this. He wants us to call him 'father', him with a wife and six kids!!" | ||||||

You said that you were not a member of any religion, but you now say that you're a Christian. Did you simply mean that you are not a member of any of the various denominations of Christianity? "Religion" isn't Baptist or Pentecostal or Catholic. Those are all denominations of one religion. "Religion" would be Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.

| bob_the_fisherman Anatidaephobic ![]() , Australia | #21 @crazylikeafox Said ![]() That doesn't answer the question. That just explains why you have a problem with the Catholic Church. My bad... I read the OP entirely wrong... Anyway, it says in Matthew 23:9 And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. | ||||||

All seems rather silly, considering how many times there's reference to it in a non-God context.

Fair enough - although the section in which he says this is speaking in a God context... he is saying do not call fellow believers your rabbi or teacher or father, as God is those things, not people ![]() That is how I read it, anyway.

I got some of my best lines from that show - "you dead tuft of rectal pubic hair" is one I use quite often...

Had a quick search, but no joy...
