I do not belong to any religion in particular or put myself or my beliefs into a box. I do believe in and love God/Jesus. I listen to all religious radio channels and research all also. I find things in all religions that I believe could be truth. I do have a question about the catholic religion though. Catholics call their priests father, but it says in the bible, very easy to understand that you are not to call any man Father....... Kind of curious as to why thy disreguard this part of the bible and do the exact opposite.

Not that I doubt you, but where does it say that? I want to see the context of that.

It's just a patrician thing, really.

The priest is traditionally seen as a patriarchal figure because of his church-given role as a father figure within the community.

It's more a sort of, term of endearment and recognition of status than an official title.

1 Timothy 3:1 Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)

So, not only should a leader be married, they should also have children - it is a prerequisite in fact, as by having a family of his own that is living as genuine Christians, he has shown his ability to lead Christian people.

1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith... 4:3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

The RCC has never been good at following basic biblical instructions - one wonders whether they would have had the child abuse problems had they not decided to force people to be celibate...

What does that have to do with the question in the OP. I don't know where the Bible says that either.

As for the Timothy quote, can't be a lover of money eh. Ph! That appears to mean you shouldn't want it. Timothy being a disciple of Paul, that makes one of them a massive hypocrite--or most likely both.

For the record, we should respect money like we would any tool. But then, ironically, Paul was a tool.

All "Christians religions have a basis of truth, but the vast majority, and the Catholics are primary in that, have distorted that truth in order to gain converts and to control people.

What one needs to find is the one which fits in with the most important aspects of Christianity.

John 4:23,24

"23 Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”

Matthew 7:13,14

13 “Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; 14 whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.

Be one of the few.

Be one of the few.

The Living Word, Christ, always touches individuals. The "few" will never be able to be identified by being members of a particular sect, denomination or church.

It is a fact that if one looks without agenda of any kind at the history of our world, those who have worshipped in spirit and in truth have been of all faiths, and sometimes of none. This purely by the evidence of the fruits of the spirit in their lives, those fruits that Christ stated explicitly were the signs of a true "prophet."

i think it's to make you respect the guy who is keeping you in the fold .... which in the catholic faith is kinda weird because the priest can't get married and he certainly can't have children .. so i think father isn't a very appropriate word ... shepherd may be a better choice .

On the contrary Jesus guides all his sheep into his own fold, he doesn't scatter them around. That is what Satan's "lot" do.

That doesn't answer the question. That just explains why you have a problem with the Catholic Church.

Or, that means you shouldn't let money rule your life. There's a difference between having money and making it the most important thing of your life, you know. Several important people in the Bible are quite wealthy in fact, and while the Bible doesn't shy away from pointing out their flaws, having money is never 1 of them. For some of them, it was a blessing God gave them.

Just curious, but how can you say that you don't belong to any religion when you're Christian? I'm pretty sure that when you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, it means you're a Christian.

As for calling priests "father," they are in a way "fathers" leading the "children" of God to salvation by teaching His word. So what if it goes against one part of the Bible? To quote Reverend Lovejoy, "Have you ever sat down and read this thing? Technically we're not supposed to go to the bathroom."

Your rather sad literalism leads you far from the "narrow path" Biker.
