aneil![]() Freeport, Trinidad and Tobago | #1 Everyone I know follows the same basic career path; go to college to learn stuff that they will NEVER use again and then work for a company that they have no connection with. Nobody I know seems to be proud of what they do, it's just a means to and end; the end being money. I never liked the idea of studying just for the sake of having a higher education and being in a job that I don't like. I want to be self-employed and feel a sense of pride after completing a project or job. Recently I gave internet business a shot. I built a couple websites for clients and I built some for myself that bring in a small amount of revenue from ads. Recently, I've been considering a career in bathroom design. basically, I want to cover plumbing as well as the aesthetic and ergonomic layout of the entire bathroom. There's a plumbing course that I want to sign up for at a local college. Has anyone here ever done this or something like this as job? I want to find out what other qualifications would be good.

I loved my subject at uni, and I'm fortunate enough to be working in the career I studied for. Good luck in bathroom design. When I want a nice, new bidet, I'll know where to come. .

With Jennifer on this one. Went to uni in my field, have a job in my field. Love my field, love what I do. Use what I learned in Uni at work on a daily basis. I even use a lot of what I learned in high school still to this day.

I do General contracting Just doing bath design would limit your client base Many do bath and kitchen design. Many of the same things are needed or wanted as in storage ease of use.

Good luck in bathroom design. When I want a nice, new bidet, I'll know where to come. . Lucky you. The thing is, here is alot different from the U.K. There are two Universities here and both are free. Walk through any one and ask students where they want to work and most of them have no idea. They just know that they need to have a degree to get into a higher salary class (and it isn't that high) "gap years" are pretty much unheard of here and kids don't get a chance to really find themselves before adulthood. last month I did some consultancy for a guy with a security firm and made 3 times what a college graduate here makes in a month. The same guy, as well as a few other people that i spoke with over the last year; told me that there's tons of money to be made as long as I'm willing to sweat. I have a University Degree that i'll probably use to get a job evenyually............ just not right now.

I'm gonna talk to a couple people to find out the required licenses etc. I'm still looking at how feasible the field is.

Yes to both IMO if you became a licensed general contractor you would need to do both. The laws maybe different where you live so make sure you look in to all of it before starting out.

| Dark_Tink Think off-center ![]() , Canada | #9 I'm actually really glad that I am NOT in the line of work that I went to college for. Yeah, it sucks that I spent all that time and money, but overall, I'm happy doing what I do. I would be bored to tears, sitting there day after day at a computer, pushing papers, talking on the phone and the rest of the tedious tasks that goes along with things in an office. The jobs that I have worked after college and currently, are all 'hands on' and physical jobs. I wouldn't have it any other way. | ||||||
