If we're gonna single out groups of other races who dress a certain way, why can't anyone mention how rednecks dress? I don't know any blacks or Hispanics who dress in baggy clothes with blingy jewelry, so why would I believe someone who tried to tell me that blacks and hispanics dress that way. Where I live, EVERYBODY dresses in jeans and dirty t-shirts like the picture I posted, but I still wouldn't point at one of my friends and say that "that's how whites dress" because I'm not naive enough to think that the limits of my own vision are what the rest of the world looks like.

I don't go around saying "That's how all blacks dress", in fact, I don't call the people who dress baggy, blacks.

"African Americans dress like children, simple. It's not racism, it's honesty. So, those children should be wearing baggy pants with no belt, hat with tag still on it, Nikes or Jordans, tall T's, 'bling'."

Funny.. (not really) thing is.. we had a similar even back in elementary school. but we were supposed to dress like Native American Indians do.... At that time I still lived with my grandparents near Ruidoso, NM ( that should give away where I come from. any who I went to the public school there for reasons I will not get into here. but yeah.. I showed up that day dressed like well everyone in the rez dressed.. ( Normal every f***ing day attire) and I got sent to the principals office for not wanting to participate and show my respect to the natives..
I was so confused.. I never ever got into trouble , I was sent home for apparently throwing a tantrum, in defending myself and stating that this is how we dressed etc etc... but yeah..

bigotry, racism, stupidity, ignorance, call it what you will. IT STILL EXISTS.. I make fun of the situation as I rather not dwell on the s*** but it's sad that it's still here with us..

Plenty of white folk wear leather- either cowboys or the very wealthy- definitely not the PETA group.

Oh and how many cowboys have you ever seen wearing African animal leather attire ?

I see where you are coming from @spinkiegirl about saying you are American not african American. For example I am English but my ancestral roots are Scottish, I don't get called Scottish English cause I am just plain English. However I understand that there is history of all races and it's essential that children (and people incidentally) learn about it - the part in this case being learning about black history month. Some of which would celebrate historical black figures, some may be going way back to the roots in which the traditional African attire may come into play. Obviously the teachers needs to make clear the differences between celebrating a races history and treating everybody as equals in the present.

nah that dude had a few years on me.. almost a full decade on me. I think.
had to check his age. lol
Honestly never even know that he grew up there, until after I moved to West Texas. Not sure if he attended the same school I went to though. It was fairly new-ish when I attended it.

Who said only whites dress dignified? Also, those are not Whites, those are rednecks.

That's definitely a staged photo. The t-shirt doesn't have tobacco spit dribble on it, and those are fake tats.

Exactly this!

The letter should have read they wanted kids to dress up in "African attire" not "African American."
Somebody needed some edjamacation.

An ill educated language that is frequently used with ill educated blacks, is Ebonics.

Yes, non blacks all dress alike too, but in a dignified way. Now, before you burst a vein... Understand there is something that I am not mentioning here because it too will be misunderstood. I don't want to offend more than I already have.

I have nothing against blacks and I believe blacks dress nicely, however, the less fortunate side of that race doesn't. In which I am speaking about mostly on this thread.

OMG! You mentioned living in states like Texas & Kentucky, etc. Ebonics is much more easily understood than those drawls & other ill educated dialects!

You're not reading correctly, you're only reading what offends you the most. War is not something to be proud of, but I'm pretty sure the blacks did not lead the old wars. Why do you feel sorry for me? I'm well educated, you're just assuming I'm being racist. To think a race is evil and must be destroyed is ignorant. You should feel bad for thinking that way. Tisk tisk.

I would think one with as much education as you- would be able to see what has been said AND would have been more careful in their own word choice usage. Or is the fact you are part hispanic mean english is only your second language? See we can make broad assumptions too.

Now you you are changing your statements. You used the words "all" & "every" black I know.... what are we to make of that?
