Underneath the Cyanide Sun....
#1New Post! Mar 17, 2012 @ 12:37:22
I've been receiving tons of unwanted or unwarranted advice about my pregnancy, the baby, my life, etc. It's really starting to get on my nerves.
Between family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers, I'm really really getting sick of it.
I know most of the time it's coming from a sincere place, but Idk why people just think I'm fair game now.

Examples:

"Are you wearing your sunblock? A lot of UV rays aren't good for the baby."

"How are you not cold? You should put on a sweater, you need to keep your little guy warm!"

"You need to stop cussing. Kids have a mind like a sponge and before you know it they'll have a bad mouth on them" (first of all, my child isn't even BORN yet)

"Oh honey don't lift that bag of clothes. You don't need to strain yourself." (I'm 3 months pregnant, not sickly)

"That shirt is too tight! You could miscarry!"

"You're not coloring your hair are you??!?! Omg, that is so bad for your baby!!!!" (I've talked to my doctor, chill)

"You know.... in a few months you'll have a child" (OH REALLY?!)

"Don't gain too much weight, now!"

"You need all those prenatal vitamins. They're SO important."

"You can't do _____. You're pregnant."

"You're in for a struggle. You need to get in school and save up a lot of money!"

"Are you getting enough sleep? Sleep is SO important? And are you eating right? How about exercise? Your baby need you to excercise! It'll make labor so much easier. OMG! hy are you eating chips?!?! OMG you need to eat carrots. Here take these carrots."

And my personal "favorite":
"You should start going out of the box with your clothing choices. Your child will see you wearing [all black]."

Yes. I got that two days ago. From my aunt while she took me out shopping.
Like somehow me wearing black jeans and a black top (my usual) is going to be a bad influence and my child is somehow going to be affected by it. Wtf?!?! God, I could have killed her...

I'm just so sick of it, yes, I'm young. But I'm not a child. I'm 19, I feel like I have a pretty good head on my shoulders, I'm not naive and going into this blindly.
People are ignorant, I know this, but GOD I never expected the unwanted advice.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is when people act like I'll be a bed-ridden, sickly invalid and can't do anything for myself.
Some people like that kind of attention, but I don't like feeling helpless.

And you wouldn't believe how much of this "Advice" has come from people who have never been pregnant.

It's irritating to be told what to do at the best of times but it must be 10 times more annoying if you're pregnant and considered 'delicate.'

I'm sure a lot of it comes from a place of love though. Even if it's not said in the nicest of ways they just want to make sure everything goes ok. Though some of those suggestions are a bit ridiculous

I know it's coming from a good place, but still!

A co-worker told me that I shouldn't stand by microwaves because the radiation is linked to miscarriages and ADHD.

I was told by a teen mother at my college that the microwave actually made her kid stop kicking and go to sleep, weirdly enough

I think if you took everyone's advice you'd end up never leaving the house

My wife had 5 kids. The only thing I ever said to her was, "don't pop during huntin season". She obeyed me 3 out of 5 times.
