sister_of_mercy![]() London, United Kingdom | #6 For a start this belongs in the philosophy section, I hate it when people confuse psychology and philosophy as they're radically different. Anyway, Plato and Socrates formed the ethical foundation of Christianity. Their idea that there was a metaphysical ultimate force that everyone sought to understand isn't that far removed from the traditional Christian conception of God. Plato and Socrates believed that for everything in this world, there was a pure form of it in the metaphysical realm, and at the very top of this chain was something that illuminated all the other forms and allowed us to understand the true nature of reality. This was the form of the good. The FOG also held the knowledge of justice, which was was Plato believed was the key to an ideal republic and a virtuous man and also features prominently within the Bible. That's a very hackneyed version but I think you should read Plato's Republic as it's fairly straightforward. In particular, focus on the allegory of the cave and the allegory of the sun, that's pretty much all you need to give an adequate comparison. | |||||||
