Hoppy is certainly entitled to his feelings about gays, I know both my brothers and to some extent, my husband, also have intolerant attitudes toward gays (men especially!) But, to me, the OP is a thinly-veiled attempt to stir s***. Just my opinion, of course!

Yeah - plus Hoppy is probably jealous that gay men know how to chat to girls about curtains.

Absoulutely agree with on this. Though as they say in Hoppy's parts "give 'em enough rope and they'll hang themselves".

Well, I consider Hoppy to be a friend, he's never attacked me directly or my beliefs, and for that I'm grateful. We are VASTLY different in our ideas and beliefs, but SO WHAT?! I think when two people agree to disagree and respect another for their opinions and not try to change them (much) things generally tend to work out!

And one more time..

This would not be such a legal nightmare if the two women were allowed to actually marry.

If they were allowed to actually marry, this would be a simple custody case, just like the ones that thousands of straight people go through every year..

But, because they're not allowed to marry, it's a legal nightmare.

So... this is a perfect example of why same sex marriage should be legalized.

Thank you hoppy for advancing the cause.

Careful!! That means you're one step away from legalizing gay marriage.

Become a wedding planner instead.. In states where same sex marriage has been legalized, the divorce rate has actually dropped.

That's partly because same sex couples that are marrying have usually been together for a very long time, and partly because the spotlight that the issue puts on marriage makes some people think twice before entering into the contract.

I'm not sure that the Supremes are going to step in for a couple of reasons.

1) it is absolutely a states rights issue, and none of the federal governments concern

2) it is very very difficult to show "harm" to marriage, considering that currently 8 states have legalized same sex marriage and nothing terrible has happened.

3) it would most assuredly affect the definition of the first amendment, and the court NEVER touches the Bill of Rights.

You're right.
But you got your marriage license from your state, not the federal government. And you're married in every state, because of the "full faith and credit" clause in the constitution.

Sadly, once enough states have legalized same sex marriage we will have to get the Supremes involved, because of that pesky DOMA..

That's a law that all Americans should be really proud of, as it celebrates the very first time that the federal government passed a law that actively discriminates against one group of people.
