Well, not exactly. I'm building a new chest to store blankets for our living room and I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm making it out of oak and it's going to have rails and stiles framed on the outside. I'll post pics when I'm done, but it may be a while because I'm taking it slowly and carefully, and can only afford to buy the lumber a little at a time as I work on it (oak can get expensive!).

I put this in recreation because it's a hobby of mine. Anyone else into woodworking?

Well it was either the pun using the word "chest" or going even lower brow and making a hardwood joke. Maybe I shoulda gone that way?

Nah, for once I shall leave my stupidity to just the one post

I like many creative things and wood can be a stunning material to work with (ag, leave the puns alone...). I've always wanted to make my own guitar, but with nowhere to work, not to mention my skills not being up to scratch, it's not something I envisage doing any time soon.

I like the idea of having skills to do things yourself

I made a birdhouse when I was in grade school and tried to put it up. The fair housing commitee came by and condemned it.

Oh making your own guitar would be fantastic! I'd imagine also extremely difficult. I don't know that I'd be up to par for anything like that. One of my best friends makes his living with his hands as a woodworker and some of the stuff he does is just amazing.

I also like making music and painting and writing, but woodworking is soulful on another level for me because of the way it requires use of the hands and a different attention to exacting detail.

Sense of achievement too

Indeed, guitars seem to be one of those things that take very little to go very wrong

I could show you a boatload of pictures of a home that my step-son and I completed, after the roof was up, and the contractor was booted off the job... Lots of wood!
