| treebee Government Hooker ![]() London, United Kingdom | #31 Depends on which circles you are moving in rather than gender. If you are working class its likely that people will frown upon women talking openly and crassly about sex. Same with some cultures. I suspect its a relgiously orientated remnant. Women were not supposed to enjoy sex. Some Indian brides are forbidden from smiling. Somehow this missed the upper classes for some reason. Perhaps they dont need religion so much. Anyway there is a definite marked weird attitude that some people take about it. But women are as guilty of being as judgemental as men are about it. | ||||||

Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #32 @sister_of_mercy Said ![]() So you don't think women are that open when it comes to talking about sex? How do you think women generally (I know you shouldn't generalise but I am talking about stereotypes afterall) approach the topic? I don't think that social stigmas should restrict people, outside of the norm, from interacting in a manner comfortable and natural to them because it only suppresses a unique and original personality that many might love even though some might raise a brow to. There was a girl I used to talk to in the Schizophrenia forums who was always open with her personality which was very sweet but at the same time outlandish (Think 'Delirium' from Neil Gaiman's Sandman stories). She was so odd that the originality made her really cute and I swooned whenever I saw her on-line. So if a female has a male labido and runs around being natural and sounding like...well...me...for once we would be presented with someone who is not attempting to win love by pretending to be perfect, she's attempting to win whatever offers TRUE acceptance by being herself.

| boobear Fucknugget ![]() London, United Kingdom | #33 When I see my friends up north we talk about it quite openly if the subject comes up. However, with my london friends I wouldn't dream of it, they're not like that. I agree with treebs it's all about the people you discuss it with. | ||||||

Electric_Banana![]() Pastel Avon Suburbia, New Zeal | #34 @x_Laura_x Said ![]() I'm very confused as to why you mention porn and then post that video. Is that what turns you on? I don't know but this is the kind of s*** that pisses off PETA.

CausaMortis![]() San Antonio, Texas | #35 I don't think religion plays much of a part in this, women are universally thought of as the carriers and promoters of virtue and chastity. This is true in virtually all cultures, whether hailing from a staunchly religious country like Saudi Arabia, to moderates ones like the US/UK, to places where religion doesn't play much of any role Japan/China. Universally speaking men get a pass for acting in a more crude and sexual fashion than women. Don't ask me why, but there's something pretty universally more insulting about calling someone's mother a whore or a slut versus their father.

| FlyGirl Banned ![]() Yeehah, | #40 There sure is a massive difference in the way guys are alowed to talk about sex and the way we are! But there's no real difference in how guys and us actually see it all. It's all just down to the individual. | ||||||

Snerdley_Snicklefritz![]() Washed Armpits is Dressy, USA, | #41 Why do people need to be open about it anyway? Aren't there some things that can remain private and intimate? And, aren't there just some things you should only dicuss with your inner circle versus the whole wide world? Honestly, i really don't want to know and don't give a whit about anyone else's sex life. And, i really would rather not have the TMI mental image of them doing the deed in my mind. No thanks.

PerlaDelMar![]() New York, New York | #45 @sister_of_mercy Said ![]() I'm reading an interesting discussion on this on Twitter at the moment and I'm wondering what you all think. Do you think there's a double standard when it comes to talking about sex, etc? Like guys can get away with talking about it without being embarrassed but it's expected that women aren't quite so vocal about sex or porn or whatever? Do you think anyone should even be hugely vocal about that kind of thing in the first place? Or maybe that's not quite the case anymore, what do you think? Obviously don't go into detail, it should be easy enough to stay above board here. People "do gender" everyday. The women do things that others categorize as girl stuff like putting on cosmetics, doing their hair and nails, "house stuff",etc. The women even put themselves our there more than men, when it comes to the things I just mentioned. When asked anything in relation to any of that, the answer will more than likely be "It's a girl thing, you wouldn't understand" or "I'm a girlie girl". Men have just as many things to do put themselves in that gender role. People can say all they want about reconstructing gender, questioning everything that the world has neatly packaged "his" and "hers". But wait til they have children, then they are starting the whole process of doing gender all over again. If a boy is born, he gets the color blue so that people will identify him as a boy, especially if he is born with lots of hair. His toys will more than likely be toy cars, planes, action figures, his clothing in "masculine colors".etc. Most people will play into this whole gender topic with their children because they fear that the probability of allowing to play with toys "meant" for the opposite sex, will somehow affect his sexual orientation. That is pure nonsense! Allowing a child to play with toys not meant for his gender will not have any bearing on his sexual orientation, which ever one the child chooses to have. What it boils down to is this: people need to stop worrying about what the neighbors think, and start doing the things they want to do, without the nagging thoughts in their head of what the neighbors really think they are doing. That makes a lot more sense. ![]()
