So you're not going to give the pastor any credit for actually opposing the policy and finding out if he had to uphold the vote?

Which part doesn't seem sincere?

Where do you find that the pastor actually opposed the policy?

After some more sleuthing found that this reads better:

Stacy Stepp, pastor of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Pike County, told The Associated Press that the vote by nine people last week was declared null and void after it was determined that new bylaws can't run contrary to local, state or national laws. He said the proposal was discriminatory, therefore it couldn't be adopted.

The first reports made it sound like the pastor was overturning it because of the low number that voted- not because it was wrong. Glad to see that it is the latter!

You didn't have to do more sleuthing, it was in the article that you linked first:

"The move comes after Stepp, who says he opposed the policy, asked for advice from the Sandy Valley Conference of Free Will Baptists."

yeah go on ask the pastor ... would be interesting to see if he has a stock answer .. and pass on his answer to me ... i'll give it marks out of ten .

Well...I asked him last night. I had to repeat myself - whether it was because he didn't hear me or he wanted to clarify what I'd asked, I'm not sure - but he had an immediate answer: "Crystal Clear"

And then he made a weird face at me and asked what brought it up.

Racist religious zealots!
Church recommendation: That the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church does not condone interracial marriage. Parties of such marriages will not be received as members, nor will they be used in worship services and other church functions, with the exception being funerals. All are welcome to our public worship services. This recommendation is not intended to judge the salvation of anyone, but is intended to promote greater unity among the church body and the community we serve.

That is over the top in my views.

What else would he have said - given the public outcry AND the fact that he allowed the vote in the first place.

You don't understand Church votes, apparently. If they're like every other church I've ever been to (probably, since they're Protestant too), the Congregation (or more usually, the deacons/church elders) can hold a vote on anything. Obviously, like what happened here, the pastor can veto it if it's bad theology, but he doesn't have an iron-grip in everything the Church does.
