I really miss my 20's, when most people were single, when hardly everyone I knew had kids yet. No-one had serious emotional baggage yet, everyone had people to drink with on Friday nights. There were so many people I knew and socialised with. It was a blast.

Nowadays I find that most of my friends are married with kids & that they are only interested in mixing with similar people. My married friends mix with other married friends & have stopped inviting me to stuff because I am newly single.

I have the job and the money I always wanted when I was in my 20's - but not the social life to go along with it. I treasure the good friends I have but I have few of them & sometimes I feel quite lonely.

Is it my fault? if I were married with kids would I be better socialised/ What happened to these 'good friends' of mine? Or is this just a stage that all single people 35-40 years go through until they create a family of their own?

It's very hard to have it all these days. The truth is probably many of your friends envy your lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with having a career. I worked like a lunatic in my 20's but I knew something had to give if I wanted a family.

Friends do tend to drift away when you are single, it's sad but it happens a lot but least you have the time and money to be able to go out and meet new ones. Things will fall into place for you.

Don't worry yourself about it girl. As a younger person i feel i can offer a different perspective here, and that is, that the most interesting 35 - 40 years olds are those without a family. They're the ones who are usually most capable of having a conversation that doesnt come back to mundane, everyday situations, or the dreaded topic of children. Be grateful for what you've got and not what you think you need.

I've found it difficult to have friends you can do things with. Most are out of shape so physical things are out, or their so busy there's no time to do anything. Getting old stinks!

My mom was a little lonely when she just turned 40. Where she works guys giver her their numbers a lot and flirt with her.

She had a long time bf that I kinda got attached too, I was ike 14/15 years old. They dated almost a year, like the same time as my bf and I. Except we lasted longer.

what I HATED though, is 5 out of 7 days a week, my mom would leave me home alone all night, come home at 4am, drive me to school, go to work, come home for a second, and leave again.
The rest of the time he was over here.

It got really gross. I hated how much time they spent together.

To me it was s***ty and irresponsible to leave me home all night long all by myself. I don't care how old I was, you don't do that.

You know i'd kill for that. My parents have no social life and we live in a 5 room bungalow, so we never get any time away from each other. Probably why i feel like killing them half the time

Fair enough, and sorry to hear. Last thing I would do if I had kids.

When I started dating a dad of three teenage kids they wrote me a letter saying something like. We are so glad Dad has met you, it's so great he is going out and having fun again, Don't feel uncomfortable about the situation you both have all our support. It was really lovely. How grown up is that!
